One of the most entertaining parts of Top Gear and The Grand Tour was watching the hosts insult each others’ cars before a big driving adventure. Although the gang doesn’t get back together that often, they still like to scold people in the automotive industry for choosing the wrong car.
Recently, Richard Hammond has taken to the DriveTribe’s YouTube channel in order to be mean (but in a light-hearted, charming way) about some automotive influencers’ cars.
In the video, Hammond makes his opinions known about a Ford Mustang GT350 owned by TJ Hunt that has had its V8 replaced with the RB26 straight-six from a Nissan GT-R, a BMW E46 M3 owned by Mat Armstrong that was formerly used as a track day car, Shmee150’s fuchsia and yellow Lamborghini Huracan STO, Whistlin’ Diesel’s brown twin-turbo Audi R8, Collette Davis’ Barbie-inspired Nissan 350Z drift car, and DriveTribe’s own BMW E61 M5 Touring, which is powered by what he calls the most delicate engine ever fitted to a production car.

The list also features the Porsche 911 Turbo of one Ben Collins, who you may better recognize as the The Stig from Top Gear’s good old days. Although he approves of the car and its driver, he is critical of how Collins takes care of the car.
“What you can’t see here is the state of it,” says Hammond. “The paint on it! There isn’t a single square inch of it that hasn’t been ruined and the reason it’s been ruined is that – Ben, by your own admission, you regularly take it to the automotive car wash.”
Although Hammond admits that a battered 911 is a cool thing, it must have been battered on the track or the highway to claim that coolness. If it’s just been ruined by a lack of care, then it’s roastable.
What do you think? Is Ben Collins’ 911 cool or not? Is Hammond right about the rest of these cars, too?
