Smart has officially confirmed that the #1 will be unveiled on April 7 while publishing the last teaser the fully electric urban SUV. The dedicated reveal event will take place at Station Berlin in Germany, with Smart initiating a countdown on its website.

The #1 will be the first all-new production model of Smart as an electric brand, and its first SUV. It is also the first result of the joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely Automobile, with the first undertaking the design and the latter responsible for the engineering.

The production model was closely previewed by the Smart Concept #1 last year, as proven by the official teasers and the spy shots of camouflaged prototypes. The urban SUV has an aerodynamic silhouette (0.29 Cd) and modern styling inside-out. Despite the compact footprint – measuring around 4,290 mm (168.9-inches) long – it will be offering significantly more interior space compared to earlier Smart models like the tiny EQ fortwo and the now-discontinued EQ forfour, expanding Smart’s lineup to a very popular segment.

Pre-production testing took place in northern China, where the battery and technology systems of the Smart #1 were tested in temperatures as low as -40°C. Some testing for local homologation purposes was also undertaken in Smart’s research and development center in Renningen, Germany.

The model will be rolled out in China, Europe, and the UK. Following next week’s premiere, Smart will announce pricing and specific market launch dates later in 2022.
