Tired of crashing into emergency vehicles and other motorists, a wayward Tesla Model Y decided to set its sights higher.
While details are limited, a video was posted on Reddit showing a Tesla crashing into a multi-million dollar Cirrus Vision Jet.
As you can see in the apparent security video, the jet is parked at an airport and is hit by a slowly moving Tesla Model Y. Even after the initial impact, the vehicle doesn’t stop and eventually rotates the plane 90 degrees.

Three people enter the frame shortly after the accident and it appears the person in black is holding a phone, which some have taken to mean he was ‘in control’ of the vehicle at the time. It’s hard to be certain of this, but one of the Reddit posts claimed the crash occurred when the vehicle was being summoned.
The Tesla Model Y owner’s manual notes that Smart Summon is “designed to allow you to move Model Y to your location (using your phone’s GPS as a target destination) or to a location of your choice, maneuvering around and stopping for objects as necessary.”
Of course, Tesla throws in a ton of caveats as they state “Smart Summon is designed and intended for use only on parking lots and driveways located on private property.” The automaker also points out that “Smart Summon is a BETA feature” and users “must maintain a clear line of sight between you and Model Y, and stay prepared to stop the vehicle at any time by releasing the button on the mobile app.”
Tesla also cautions that “Smart Summon may not stop for all objects (especially very low objects such as some curbs, or very high objects such as a shelf) and may not react to all traffic.” Given that the vehicle hit the plane’s tail, it’s possible the crossover didn’t see the aircraft as the tail would likely qualify as a high object. Regardless, there’s little doubt this is a case of operator error as they should have intervened and stopped the vehicle before the collision.
