Production of the Ford F-150 Lightning has yet to begin and the car manufacturer has already confirmed that it has sold out for the 2022 model year.
Ford’s first all-electric pickup truck has generated a huge amount of interest for the brand, so much so that it took less than six months for the carmaker to secure almost 200,000 reservations for the EV. Fast forward to April 2022 and Ford has updated its website to confirm that the 2022 F-150 Lightning is no longer available.
“Due to high demand, the current model year is now longer available for retail order. Contact your dealer for more information,” the website reads. It is understood that the cheapest variants of the F-150 Lightning were the first to sell out.

Speaking with Cars Direct, Galpin Ford confirmed that the automaker has indeed stopped taking orders for 2022 F-150 Lightning models. That means customers only have the option of either finding an example sitting on a dealership (possibly with a hefty markup) or wait for the 2023 model year.
The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning kicks off at $39,974 before federal or state tax credits in its entry-level, commercial-oriented Pro variant. Those looking for something a little more well-equipped can then opt for F-150 Lighting XLT, starting at $52,974. Sitting above the XLT in the range are the Lariat and Platinum, priced at $67,474 and $90,874 respectively.
Ford will officially launch the F-150 Lightning on April 26. The company intends on building all 2022 models that have been ordered by late spring before it shifts production to the 2023 model in the fall.
In March, it was confirmed that F-150 Lightning models equipped with the standard 98 kWh battery pack can travel up to 230 miles (370 km) on a single charge while those with the larger 131 kWh battery enjoy a range of 320 miles (515 km).
