The end of the internal combustion engine is just around the corner but the Gordon Murray T.50 serves to prove that no EV can match the emotion provided by a car like the T.50.
It’s been quite some time since the T.50 was first unveiled and development of the car continues. Recently, it made an appearance at the 79th Members’ Meeting at the Goodwood circuit in the UK where it served as the pace car. The soundtrack produced by the T.50 is simply astonishing.
While Gordon Murray could have shopped around for an off-the-shelf engine for the first supercar from his namesake company, he instead tasked Cosworth with developing a bespoke engine from scratch. The resulting engine is a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated V12 that pumps out 654 hp and 344 lb-ft (467 Nm) of torque. More impressive than the horsepower and torque figures, however, is the fact that the engine has a redline of 12,100 rpm.

This engine is also so extraordinarily responsive that it can go from idle to redline in just 0.3 seconds. It also weighs just 392 lbs (178 kg), thanks largely to its prolific use of aluminum alloy and titanium components.
Making the T.50 all the more special is the fact that the 4.0-liter V12 isn’t mated to an advanced dual-clutch transmission and instead, rocks a six-speed manual powering the rear wheels.
It is not yet clear when the first deliveries of the T.50 will begin but during its unveiling in mid-2020, the British firm said it would be ready to reach customers in 2022. The T.50 starts at £2.36 million ($3.08 million) before taxes and will be capped at just 100 units worldwide.
Those who weren’t fortunate enough to secure an allocation for the T.50 can order a slightly more affordable model from the company. We’re of course talking about the T.33, which was unveiled in late January and features the same basic V12 as the T.50 but starts at $1.85 million.
