The BMW XM is shaping up to be one of the most striking performance vehicles to hit the market and a CarScoops reader recently snapped one example testing on the German autobahn.

Marco snapped a single photo of the XM prototype from the rear. It shows the SUV testing under heavy camouflage and just as with other prototypes, it looks very similar to the outlandish concept that BMW presented last year.

2023 BMW XM: What The Production SUV Will Look Like, Powertrains And Everything Else We Know

Immediately making the rear of the car stand out will be a pair of intriguing LED taillights dramatically different in shape than any other current BMW model. Additionally, we can also see that the production model will retain the same stacked quad tailpipes as the concept and sport the same voluptuous bumper.

Among the other key styling elements visible on this prototype include the flared rear wheel arches, eye-catching rocker panels, and a set of familiar BMW M wing mirrors.

Previous BMW XM prototypes snapped while out and about have confirmed that the front fascia will be just as outlandish as the rear. For example, there will be striking split-headlights not dissimilar to the facelifted X7 as well as the forthcoming new 7-Series and i7. The SUV will also feature massive kidney grilles.

In terms of performance, we know that the production model will rock a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 working alongside an electric motor to produce a combined 750 hp and 737 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque. This engine will make the XM the most powerful BMW M car to hit production and the small battery pack should also allow it to travel up to 50 miles (80 km) on a single charge.

BMW is expected to unveil the insane SUV in the coming months and has already confirmed that it will be produced at its plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Hat tip to Marco for the photo!
