Vietnamese automaker VinFast has announced pricing for its battery lease program in the US together with the detailed prices of the VF 8 and VF 9 fully electric SUVs. VinFast will be selling its models separately from the batteries which will be offered in two different usage-based subscription plans.
Starting with the battery lease options, the Flexible plan has a monthly fee of $35 for the VF 8 and $44 for the VF 9, allowing up to 310 miles of travel each month. If customers exceed that number, VinFast will charge them $0.11 per mile for the VF 8 and $0.15 per mile for the VF 9.

Those who travel more and don’t like restrictions can opt for the Fixed plan which allows unlimited range and costs $110 for the VF 8 and $160 for the VF 9. As a welcoming gift to early customers who make reservations and deposits in 2022, VinFast is offering the Fixed plan as a guaranteed lifetime subscription fee that will be automatically transferred to the future owner of the vehicle if the original buyer decides to sell it.
The option of leasing the battery instead of buying it with the car has certain advantages. VinFast provides a lifetime battery warranty which means it will cover all maintenance and repair costs, and even replace the battery for free when its capacity falls below 70 percent. The automaker suggests that its current battery subscription policy will continue until the end of 2023. Then, it plans on moving on to a 50-50 owning-leasing scheme.

Moving on to the actual vehicles, the VF 8 and the VF 9 are the first of many fully electric SUVs from VinFast. They are expected to reach US dealerships in the second half of the year, with the exception of long-range variants of the VF 9 that will follow in 2023.
The models will be available in two versions – Eco and Plus – that can be combined with two battery outputs. Depending on the specifications, the range varies between 248 – 292 miles for the VF 8 and between 262 – 369 miles for the VF 9. Note that the cost of the batteries is not included in the price since buyers lease them after purchasing the vehicle.
VF 8 Eco – $40,700 / $41,000
VF 8 Plus – $47,700 / $48,000
VF 9 Eco – $55,500 / $56,000
VF 9 Plus – $60,500 / $61,000
During the 2022 New York International Auto Show, VinFast will be offering rides to the VF 8, allowing potential customers to experience the Smart Services suite which will be offered alongside its models. VinFast has recently announced its own EV assembly plant in North Carolina, with the first vehicles rolling off of the line by 2024.
