BMW isn’t the only automaker working on a facelifted crossover coupe as arch rival Mercedes is wrapping up development on the updated GLE Coupe.
Recently caught undergoing testing on the Nürburgring, the 2023 GLE Coupe has been given a light refresh that mainly focuses on the front end. The changes are barely noticeable, but we can see an updated grille and a new front bumper with revised air intakes. We can also expect new headlight graphics, but they’re hidden by camouflage.
The subtle updates continue out back as we can see new taillights that appear to have their reverse lights moved from the bottom to the center. The chrome bar on the rear bumper also appears to be thinner than before, but it’s hard to be certain at this point.

Spy photographers didn’t get a look inside, but previous pictures of the GLE have revealed the model will be equipped with a new steering wheel. We can also expect a handful of other changes including an updated infotainment system and upgraded driver assistance systems.
Since this is a relatively minor update, engine options could carryover. If that’s the case, we can expect an assortment of options including a 53 variant with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder developing 429 hp (320 kW / 435 PS) and 384 lb-ft (521 Nm) of torque. The model also has an EQ Boost system with an electric motor that can deliver an additional 21 hp (16 kW / 21 PS) and 184 lb-ft (249 Nm) of torque for short periods of time. This setup enables the crossover to run from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 5.2 seconds, before hitting an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
We can also expect a facelifted 63 S with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine pumping out 603 hp (450 kW / 611 PS) and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque. This cuts the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time to 3.7 seconds, while the top speed increases up to 174 mph (280 km/h).
European customers can expect additional variants including plug-in hybrids and diesel models. Of course, we’ll learn full details when the GLE Coupe makes its expected debut later this year.
