2024 Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder RS Spotted Again Borrowing Heavily From Cayman GT4 RS

Enthusiasts have fallen in love with the Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder, but it appears an even more extreme RS variant is on the horizon.

Recently spied undergoing testing on and around the Nürburgring, the high-performance roadster follows in the footsteps of the standard model but adopts lightweight center-locking wheels that are backed up by a beefy braking system.

That isn’t the only noticeable change as the prototype has been equipped with two extra intakes that reside behind the side windows. The soft top has also been modified and sadly loses its iconic buttresses, although it’s important to note this is only a prototype.

Porsche hasn’t said much about the model, but it’s expected to borrow heavily from the $149,100 718 Cayman GT4 RS. It features a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six that develops 493 hp (368 kW / 500 PS) and 331 lb-ft (448 Nm) of torque. The engine is connected to a seven-speed PDK transmission, which sends power to the rear wheels via a mechanically locking rear differential. This setup enables the coupe to rocket from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.2 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 196 mph (315 km/h).

Of course, it’s worth noting the 718 Boxster Spyder RS looks less aggressive than the 718 Cayman GT4 RS as it eschews NACA ducts, front fender vents, and a massive rear wing. As a result, the roadster will likely be less extreme than the track-focused coupe.

While a number of questions remain, early speculation suggests the 718 Boxster Spyder RS could arrive next year, presumably as a 2024 model.
