BMW took to its social media outlets today to offer us a first hint as to what its new competition hypercar will look like. The automaker also revealed that it will unveil the car on Monday, June 6.

Most of the car’s finer details are in the dark, preventing us from getting a really good look at the car. Considered next to a rendering the automaker released in November 2021, though, we can see some of that drawing’s details reflected here.

There are, for instance, twin slim vertical headlights, as well as sharp side mirrors and what looks like the top of a huge front splitter.

The hood-mounted air intake for the hybrid powertrain is also present here. A massive wing, meanwhile, indicates that BMW has not gone down the same development route as Peugeot, which is relying on underbody aero elements for rear-end downforce for its hypercar campaigner.

As seen in the previous rendering, the race car’s styling will take after modern production BMWs and will feature big kidney grilles at the front.

The automaker has also indicated that it will be campaigning two LMDh cars in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and that they will use a chassis produced by Dallara. The first car, produced at the company’s Italian factory, will make its on-track debut at the Varano circuit this year before racing for the first time at the Rolex 24 at Daytona in January 2023.

Further details regarding the powertrain have not yet been revealed by the automaker but the class requires that race cars use a hybrid powertrain. In addition to racing in IMSA, BMW has also made clear that it intends to campaign its car at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, whose regulations it will also satisfy.

At the legendary French race, it will compete against cars fielded by Porsche, Audi, Acura, Toyota, Peugeot, Ferrari, and others.
