There has never been a better time to purchase a classic American muscle car with modern-day performance bits thanks to the growth of restomods. This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro is an excellent example of what money can buy you.

This particular Camaro hit the auction block during Mecum’s Indy sales event that ran from May 13-21 but as of May 23, bidding on the car was continuing. While we don’t yet know how much the car is going to sell for, it appears to have attracted quite a lot of interest and is the perfect combination of the classic and modern worlds.

Limited details are offered about the car’s transformation from a regular 1969 Camaro to one as special as this but we can see extensive work has been done to the exterior, including a complete respray in a shade of Gunmetal Gray. Various new body panels have also been fitted, including a new hood with a large power bulge and an overhauled tailgate with a pronounced tailgate spoiler. A set of 18-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels catch the eye.

Then there’s the powertrain. Gone is the Camaro’s original engine and sits in its place is the 7.0-liter V8 from a 2006 Chevy Corvette Z06. Ordinarily, this 7.0-liter V8 churns out 505 hp and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque but thanks to an Edelbrock supercharger, it now delivers 650 hp. Coupled to the V8 is a Tremec six-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels.

Other modifications made to the Camaro include a Pro G subframe, a set of beefed-up Wilwood brakes at all four corners, and coilover suspension. The listing also reveals the car has a rack and pinion steering system and is equipped with a 3-inch stainless custom exhaust with long stainless tube headers.
