Mercedes is celebrating 55 years of AMG in 2022, thus offering the “Edition 55” special editions for various models. After the launch of the G 63 and the A35 / CLA 35 in Europe, Mercedes-AMG presented the special A45 S / CLA 45 S “Edition 55” for Australia.

The most powerful variants of Mercedes’ compact range are a fitting base for the special edition. The models can be ordered in either Cosmos black metallic or Digital white metallic exterior paint, combined with decals on the profile. The bodykit looks more aggressive thanks to the addition of the AMG Aerodynamics package which includes a prominent splitter, cannards, a rear wing, and a diffuser blade.

The “Edition 55” comes standard with the AMG Night Package II which means that the grille, intakes, splitter, sidesill inserts, mirror caps, and windowline trim are finished in high-gloss black alongside the emblems. The dark theme continues with the black chrome finish on the quad exhaust pipes and the dark tinted windows. As a final touch, the standard 19-inch AMG cross-spoke forged wheels in titanium gray have a special center cap with “Edition 55” elements around the Mercedes’ star.

Inside the cabin, a black and red theme has been selected for the special editions, combined with dark brushed aluminum trim. The standard AMG Performance seats are upholstered in red and black leather, and the flat-bottom steering wheel has an “Edition 55” badge. The AMG floor mats are made of velour with red stitching and red “Edition 55” lettering, while the slide sills have red-illuminated AMG emblems. Owners of the special editions will also receive a black AMG Indoor Car Cover with a silver AMG logo.

The CLA 45 S and the A45 S are fitted with the most powerful version of the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 415 hp (310 kW / 421 PS) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and the 4MATIC+ system with the sophisticated AMG Torque Control system which features a Drift Mode. The A45 S can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, while the CLA 45 S needs 4.0 seconds. Both have an electronically limited top speed of 270 km/h (167 mph).

Mercedes-AMG didn’t specify the number of A45 S and CLA 45 S “Edition 55” that will be offered for sale. The models will reach Australian dealerships in late 2022, with pricing to be announced closer to the market launch.
