The Polestar 2 hasn’t been on sale in Australia for long and already, the Swedish car manufacturer has released a performance-oriented software update for it.
This is the same software update that was launched in the U.S. earlier this month and rolled out throughout Europe in late 2021 for the Long Range Dual Motor variant. It adds 50 kW (67 hp) and 20 Nm (14 lb-ft) of torque to the dual-motor powertrain, meaning it now churns out 350 kW (476 hp) and 680 Nm (502 lb-ft) of torque. That gives the Polestar 2 more grunt than the Tesla Model 3 Performance with its 340 kW (450 hp) and 439 lb-ft (639 Nm) of torque.

Polestar notes that the additional power reduces the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time to 4.4 seconds. The additional power and torque is particularly evident between 70 km/h (43 mph) and 130 km/h (80 mph). For example, the 80-120 km/h (50-74 mph) time has been reduced to 2.2 seconds, half a second quicker than before.
“The upgrade highlights how connected technologies can transform the relationship a car company has with its customers,” Polestar chief executive Thomas Ingenlath described in a statement. “The driving experience in Polestar 2 is something we are really proud of. It is such a fun car to drive already, but with this upgrade we can offer even more to our customers who might be after a little extra excitement.”
The upgrade is available through the Polestar Extras webshop as an over-the-air update.
Three variants of the Polestar 2 are available in Australia. Kicking off the range is the Standard model with a single electric motor and priced from AU$59,900 ($43,109) while those looking after great range can purchase the Long Range Single Motor available from AU$64,900 ($46,707) and the Long Range Dual Motor from AU$69,900 ($50,305).
