Creating a stock wheel design that’s memorable demonstrates how tough it really is to reinvent the wheel both literally and figuratively. Despite the fact that dozens of new cars come out every year, it’s pretty rare that one of them shows up with a stock wheel design that matches the car perfectly. So we wonder which ones are the best from history.
One of favorites comes from the BMW M1 that you see in our lead image. That car is special no matter what wheels you put on it and that makes us wonder about a chicken and the egg sort of situation. Is it the awesome car that makes the wheels special? Or are the wheels actually special on their own? Perhaps it’s the combination that makes them perfect. Either way, we want to know which stock wheels are your favorites in the history of the automobile.

It’s not just that brand that has a history of good wheel designs though. Lots of European, Japanese and American cars use stunning wheel designs that people still love.
Porsche had its Fuchs wheels for years which still go for top dollar when they show up on the used market. More recently, the Alfa Romeo Giulia can be had with some of the holiest wheels you’ll find on the market today.
It’s not the only hole-filled wheel that looks special either. One set of wheels sold on the Lamborghini Huracan features a slew of sexy hexagons that nod to the brand’s obsession with the six-sided shape.
Of course, holes aren’t required to make a wheel great. The Aston Martin Valkyrie sports a nearly flat wheel that cuts through the air to aid in aerodynamics. Nevertheless, there’s got to be a bunch more that you think are even better. So tell us about them below and, maybe, include a picture where you can.
