Uber has announced a plethora of new products and services for 2022, including a new service where users can request a ride in an electric vehicle.
Uber Comfort Electric has launched in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, and Dubai and will expand to more cities soon. The technology company says the service includes vehicles from Tesla and Polestar but hasn’t said if EVs from other car manufacturers will be included in the platform as well.

The launch of the service forms part of Uber’s commitment of becoming a zero-emissions mobility platform by 2040. It also comes a few months after Uber joined forces with Hertz to introduce 50,000 Teslas across its service by 2023. Uber drivers can rent a Tesla for their work for $334 per week, although that price is expected to drop to $299 as the program becomes more popular.
Uber has also built a new EV Hub in the Uber Driver app that will help encourage drivers to switch to an electric vehicle, providing information and incentives about EVs while also comparing the cost of owning an EV to owning a combustion vehicle. A Charging Map will also be added to the Driver app to show users the locations of nearby charging stations as well as what charging speeds are available at these locations.
A number of other new programs have been announced by Uber. One is Uber Travel, which allows users to reserve rides for each leg of their itinerary by simply connecting their Gmail account to the app. Uber Travel has already launched in the U.S. and will land in Canada in the coming weeks. It will also expand to the UK this summer where users will be able to book trains, coaches, and car rentals through the app.
