Volkswagen Group has teased a trio of upcoming urban EVs set to be unveiled in 2025 from Volkswagen, Skoda, and Cupra. The new models will be produced in Spain, where the German group will be building a new Gigafactory following a massive investment of €10 billion ($10.57 billion) in the region.
Starting with the teasers, the entry-level EVs appear in simple plain-coloured sketches. All three of them will be based on a smaller version of the MEB architecture, sharing batteries and electric motors, thus featuring similar proportions with different design identities. According to earlier announcements, prices will start from anywhere between €20,000 ($21,141) and €25,000 ($26,427).

The Volkswagen proposal looks quite different from the boxy ID.Life concept and more like a baby ID.3, confirming the earlier rumors about a complete redesign. It has an illuminated grille and emblem, merging with the aggressively styled headlights. Other things we can grasp from the sketch are the rounded surfacing, the large-diameter wheels, and the overall proportions that look like a supermini hatchback.
Moving on to the Cupra sketch, it is actually the urban crossover that was teased by Seat last year. The model has a sporty stance, although less radical than the UrbanRebel concept. It comes with a duo-tone roof, a distinct windowline, and pronounced rear shoulders, while ground clearance appears to be increased giving it a more adventurous look.
Finally, Skoda’s take is also a crossover that will be more focused on practicality. This one has boxy wheelarches with plastic cladding, a straight character line on the profile and simpler surfacing, in line with Skoda’s new design identity which was teased not long ago. As hinted by Thomas Schäfer, Skoda CEO, the new EV will be differentiated from its siblings, incorporating unique features.

Aside from the upcoming models, VW Group announced it will be investing €10 billion ($10.57 billion) in the country as part of the Future: Fast Forward project. This is described as the single largest industrial investment in Spain, and higher than it was originally expected.
The trio of EVs from VW, Skoda and Cupra will be produced in new production lines in the Martorell and Pamplona factories. More importantly, a new battery Gigafactory will be built in Sagunto, with an annual production capacity of 40 GWh. Construction will start in the first quarter of 2023, and the first batteries will be produced in 2026, creating more than 3,000 jobs by 2030. The plant will also be carbon-neutral, using green energy from a new solar farm set to be built nearby.
VW Group plans on building six battery factories in Europe by 2030, with plants in Skelleftea, Sweden (2023), Saltzgitter, Germany (2025), and Sagunto, Spain (2026) already confirmed.
