The Fiat Dino was the second half of the Dino V6 engine story, and to many is one of the most beautiful vehicles ever designed by Pininfarina.
The Dino was built as a partnership between two Italian giants, Fiat and Ferrari. Ferrari had wanted to introduce a smaller sports car with a V6 engine and tapped Fiat to produce the engine for them. In exchange for building the engine, Fiat’s end of the deal allowed it to produce a front-engined sports car with the powerplant as a cousin to Ferrari’s mid-engined Dino 206.
The engine itself is a 65-degree V6, displacing 2.0-liters initially. Development in Grand Prix racing meant that the powerplant was race-proven to be reliable, and produced a healthy 160 horsepower and 120 lb-ft of torque. From 1969 onward, the sports car was offered with a 2.4-liter version of the V6, the same unit that can be found in the 246 Dino and the Lancia Stratos.

This particular 1968 Dino was taken off the road in 1977, having apparently suffered a fire at some point in its life. Unfortunately, the blaze seems to have badly damaged most of the exterior, as well as a lot of the interior. The windshield is also not present, as it likely broke due to the heat.
Born in 1968, this is one of just 4833 Fiat Dino Spiders featuring a 2.0-liter engine, making it rarer than the later model with the larger engine. With 67,678 miles (108,917km) on the odometer, the vehicle was up for auction on Historics and sold for £16,800 ($21,129 USD).
According to a Dino expert who evaluated the vehicle, it hasn’t been previously worked on, making it a good starting point for a restorer. The sale also included a number of spares, most importantly a rare factory removable hardtop.
The new owner has a lot of work ahead of them if they intend to bring it back to showroom condition, but in the end, they’ll be left with a valuable sports car that looks as good as it drives (and sounds!)
