Badge engineering has come a long way and cars like the Acura Integra and the Honda Civic, which are based on the same platform, really do look very distinct. As is only reasonable, though, certain parts are shared.
Normally, that wouldn’t be an issue. Who cares if the cupholders in two cars are the same? Unfortunately for Acura, one of the parts inside the new Integra features an Easter egg for the Honda Civic, making it clear which car it was really intended for.
As discovered by Jason Richmond (via Tiresmeetroad), who goes under the name HondaPro Jason, the all-new Integra has a spill mat located deep in the bowels of the center console that can be lifted to reveal an image of the original Honda Civic with the “The CIVIC history goes on” written on it.

The inscription is pretty similar to one found in the 10th-generation Civic. That car, though, had a bigger spill mat located low down in the center console that featured a celebration of Honda engineering. It had images of a motorcycle, an F1 car, and the HondaJet engraved in it.
The 2022 Civic, meanwhile, features the same top-down, papercraft-like image of the car in its interior (with the same inscription, too), but it’s not located under a spill mat. It can be found, instead, under the coin tray in the center console.
That kind of makes it unclear if this came about as a result of penny-pinching or if Acura is happy to acknowledge that the new Integra is based on the Civic and wants to celebrate that legacy, too. There are worse cars to share a platform with, after all.
We’ve reached out to Acura for more information but until we hear back, we’ll call it an interesting little Easter egg that’s hidden within the new Integra.
