DS Automobiles is working on a mid-life update for the smallest member of its lineup – the DS 3 Crossback. Our spy photographers caught a prototype of the small SUV hiding its redesigned face under a thin layer of camouflage.

It might not seem like that long ago but the DS 3 Crossback debuted back in September 2018. Four years later, the French model is ready for a facelift in order to stay relevant against its more recent competitors in the B-SUV segment.

The facelifted DS 3 Crossback will retain its quirky styling, with the updates focused on the front end. The shape of the LED headlights looks identical but the bumper-mounted vertical DRLs gain a two-stripe design inspired by the newer DS 4 compact hatchback/crossover. It also appears to have a larger grille that is now connected with the lower bumper intake.

The profile and the rear end of the prototype are fully uncovered and do not have any differences compared to the current DS 3 Crossback. Still, DS could add fresh LED graphics on the taillights, new wheel designs, and a fresh color palette to spice up the facelifted SUV. The mild exterior tweaks will likely be followed by a few technological upgrades inside the premium-styled cabin.

The DS 3 Crossback is sharing the CPM / eCMP architecture with the Peugeot 2008 and the Opel Mokka, being a slightly more premium proposal compared to its siblings. The model is currently available with the turbocharged 1.2 Puretech petrol, the 1.5 BlueHDi turbodiesel, and with a fully electric powertrain bearing the E-Tense emblem. The facelifted model will certainly carry over the petrol and EV variants, with the former likely benefiting from a mild-hybrid system for lower emissions and fuel consumption.

The updated DS 3 Crossback is expected to launch in Europe sometime in 2023.
