The facelifted BMW 3-Series range was introduced last month, but the pre-facelift model remains on sale in India where it has received the 50 Jahre M Edition treatment. The special edition commemorating the 50th anniversary of BMW M is based on the M340i xDrive, and despite not being a full-blown M model, it is the quickest BMW to be built in India.
The 50 Jahre M Edition is available in either Dravid Grey or Tanzanite Blue exterior shades taken from the BMW Individual catalogue, combined with a set of Jet Black 19-inch alloy wheels. Like the standard M340i, the special edition comes with the M visual package, but here the grille and the mirrors are finished in High Gloss Black. Those who want something sportier can get the optional rear spoiler, side sill extensions and mirror caps in carbon fiber. Finally, the BMW emblem is surrounded by blue, violet and red colors, showing that this is not your typical 3-Series.

Inside, we find black and blue upholstery with Alcantara inserts and a piano black trim. Optional equipment includes the M Performance steering wheel, plenty of carbon fiber bits, and a special keyfob although don’t expect to see the digital cockpit as this is only available in the facelifted 3-Series and M3/M4 models.
The M340i xDrive is fitted with a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 382 hp (285 kW / 387 PS) and 500 Nm (368.8 lb-ft) of torque. Power is transmitted to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox and the xDrive system, allowing a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.4 seconds. The model also features an M Sport suspension, steering, brakes, and differential.
Pricing for the BMW M340i xDrive 50 Jahre M Edition in India starts from Rs 68.90 lakh, which translates to $87,981. BMW will unveil more 50 Jahre Edition M models this year for various markets all over the world, with special trim elements and extra kit. Besides the M340i for India, we have already seen the M3 50 Jahre Edition for North America and the M4 50 Jahre Edition for Europe and other regions.
