Lamborghini is embarking on an electrified future but that doesn’t mean its eye-catching design philosophy will change.
While recently speaking with Autocar, Lamborghini design boss Mitja Borkert said the Italian automaker’s forthcoming hybrid and electric models will still “look like spaceships.”
“We will always create cars with emotional performance,” Borkert said. “They will always look like spaceships, always be inspiring, always cars that with whatever technology they have will have the sound and the emotion to touch you. We have a clear future declared by Stephan Winkelmann and we are heading to the future. We finish with pure internal combustion this year and start hybrid next year.”

Successors to both the Lamborghini Aventador and Huracan are in the works and will adopt hybrid powertrains. We know that the Aventador’s replacement will pair its hybrid system to a naturally aspirated V12 and the replacement to the Huracan is also expected to retain a naturally aspirated V10.
Borkert added that it is important the car manufacturer uses new technologies, noting that “there’s always a new generation” of buyers interested in Lamborghini’s models.
In addition, Lamborghini’s design boss mentioned that the company “can introduce smart aero in the future” and said that the presence of battery packs will not force it to alter the classic proportions of its models.
The successor to the Aventador was spied wearing a thin layer of camouflage back in March. That prototype had very similar proportions to the Aventador but stood out thanks to an overhauled front end with slim headlights and distinctive daytime running lights. Other intriguing design details of that prototype included large side air intakes and a bold rear end with Y-shaped LED taillights and quad exhausts located high up on the fascia.
