Chicken soup might be good for the soul, but low prices are better for the wallet. The latter is a forte of the 2023 Kia Soul, which will begin at $19,790 when it arrives at U.S. dealerships this summer.
Costing $500 more than its predecessor, the 2023 Soul features a streamlined front bumper, new lighting units, and a more stylized intake. The changes continue out back with a sportier bumper and updated taillights.
In terms of equipment, the entry-level Soul LX features rear privacy glass and 16-inch steel wheels. Buyers will also find a digital instrument cluster, air conditioning, and an 8-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
On the safety front, a number of previously optional systems have now become standard. Thanks to this change, the 2023 Soul comes equipped with Forward Collision Avoidance with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keep Assist, and Rear Occupant Alert.

Moving up the trim ladder is the $22,290 Soul S, which rides on 16-inch alloy wheels. It comes equipped with a 10-way power driver’s seat and a larger 10.25-inch infotainment system with GPS navigation. Buyers will also find a dual-zone automatic climate control system, a wireless smartphone charger, and a passive entry system with a push-button ignition.
The mid-level Soul S also sports additional safety features including Lane Change Assist, Lane Departure Warning, and Blind Spot Collision Avoidance. They’re joined by High Beam Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist.
The $23,390 Soul GT-Line goes in a sportier direction as it features unique shocks and larger 18-inch alloy wheels. The model is also distinguished by unique bumpers, additional body-color components, and a chrome tipped center exhaust. Other highlights include a leather-wrapped “D-shape” steering wheel, a sunroof, and seats that feature cloth and artificial leather upholstery.
Sitting at the top of the range is the $24,090 Soul EX, which features a sunroof and 17-inch alloy wheels. Buyers will also find a leather-wrapped steering wheel and premium cloth front seats with heating.
Regardless of which trim is selected, all 2023 Souls are equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 147 hp (110 kW / 149 PS) and 132 lb-ft (179 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to an intelligent variable transmission, which sends power exclusively to the front wheels.
