The 24 Hours of Le Mans takes place this weekend, but Ferrari is already looking ahead to the future as they’ve teased the car that will return them to the pinnacle of motorsport.

Simply known as the Ferrari LMH at this point, the racer is unmistakably a Ferrari as it features a prominent prancing horse and a classic yellow badge.

Additional details are hard to make out, but the car has slender LED lighting units and a prominent carbon fiber splitter. We can also see what appears to be angular intakes and red supports.

Ferrari didn’t say much about the car, but noted the racer “shows strong design references to the stylistic features that distinguish the models in the Prancing Horse range.” The automaker added that development testing will begin in the coming weeks, before the model enters competition next year.

2023 holds a lot of significance as Ferrari last competed in the top class of Le Mans in 1973. As a result, the brand will return to Le Mans 50 years later and just in time for the race’s centennial.

Ferrari originally announced their return in 2021, when they revealed plans for a Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) program. At the time, the company said the decision was made after careful study and analysis. The automaker also noted development was already underway as they spent early 2021 running simulations and working on the car’s design.

While Ferrari has been out of the Le Mans spotlight for decades, the brand has racked up 36 victories over the years. The automaker wants to build on that legacy and Ferrari President John Elkann has previously said “With the new Le Mans Hypercar program, Ferrari once again asserts its sporting commitment and determination to be a protagonist in the major global motorsport events.”
