A modern-day GMC Jimmy is being brought to life by Flat Out Autos and this is our first look at a nearly-completed prototype of the truck.

We first heard about the company’s plan to take a new GMC Sierra and transform it into a Jimmy back in January. Since then, the unique pickup truck has taken shape and will be unveiled to the public at November’s SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

In overhauling the Sierra, Flat Out Autos has significantly reduced the length of the wheelbase and drastically altered the proportions of the pickup. The changes are barely visible when the truck is viewed from the front but become immediately noticeable when viewed from the side thanks to the shortened wheelbase and the fact the Sierra now just has two doors. The roofline also appears to be slightly lower, although that might just be an optical illusion.

Flat Out Autos has also changed the bed of the pickup, completely redesigning it and more neatly incorporating it into the bodywork. You will also notice that there are a pair of small seats on the bed.

The company behind the project notes that it is currently developing a removable fiberglass roof for the Sierra that will sit over the bed. It also intends on customizing the truck’s interior and will provide it with a fresh shade of paint before SEMA.

While work on the prototype is still ongoing, Flat Out Autos is expected to ultimately offer its Jimmy upgrade package to those Sierra owners who are willing to have their trucks completely overhauled. Pricing and availability details have not been confirmed.
