Gordon Murray Automotive is offering the T.50 and T.33 limited production supercars with mid-mounted V12 engines but the Gordon Murray Group is also working on something quite different – a pair of mainstream SUVs coming with fully electric powertrains.

Gordon Murray said that the new SUVs will set new standards in terms of range anxiety and vehicle dynamics, following the same principles as his supercar designs. This means that the new models will be lightweight, with clever packaging and advanced aerodynamics, while benefiting from his expertise in chassis setup. He also announced that one of them will be a four-seater with an FWD layout, and the other will be a five-seater with an AWD layout. Unlike the ultra-expensive T.50 and T.33 supercars, the SUVs will be priced to be accessible to more people.

One of the sibling models will likely be manufactured in Windlesham and wear Gordon Murray emblems, but the other is being developed for another manufacturer. As reported by Autocar, the SUVs will sit on a new EV-dedicated architecture developed by Gordon Murray Design. This platform was hinted at last year, during the announcement of a five-year expansion plan as part of a £300 million ($377 million) investment. It was described as a “revolutionary, lightweight, ultra-efficient electric vehicle architecture” set to underpin a small SUV with an LCV derivative.

Gordon Murray is no stranger to designing different kinds of vehicles, ranging from electric heavy quadricycles to trucks for emerging markets. All of them use the patented iStream production method that focuses on low weight, smaller carbon footprint and significantly reduced initial investment costs.
