Good morning and welcome to our daily digest of automotive news from around the globe, starting with…
The End Of The ICE Age Is Near, Which Era Was The Most Inventive?
Depending on where you live, it won’t be long before internal combustion engines in new cars are a distant memory. But with a back catalog of some 150 years to dip into, what ear was the most inventive for burning fossil fuels?
Driven: The 2022 Honda HR-V e:HEV Is A Premium-Looking But Pricey SUV
We’ve tested the global HR-V (not to be confused with the larger North American car of the same name), which is exclusively a self-charging hybrid. The latest HR-V makes a step up in its positioning, with styling and pricing placing the SUV above some of its B-Segment rivals such as the Skoda Kamiq and Renault Captur E-Tech. Price-wise, it even knocks on the door of the larger Volvo XC40 and BMW X1. But for that, it is a more mature offering than its predecessor, with a compelling interior and intriguing design.
2023 GMC Canyon: Tough New Looks, Powertrains And Everything Else We Know Before Imminent Launch
Going up against competition from the Nissan Frontier, Jeep Gladiator, and Ford Ranger, the 2023 GMC Canyon will be entering a crowded marketplace for a segment that was on the brink of collapse. Our speculative illustrations show that the 2023 GMC Canyon will make some tweaks to enhance its refreshed offering, including slim DRLs, split headlights, chunky fenders, and squared-off proportions. Underpinning the new Canyon (and upcoming Colorado) will be a heavily revised version of GM’s GMT32XX platform. It will also feature a new version of GM’s electrical architecture to enable over-the-air updates and other remote connectivity services.
Classic Cars Less Harmful To The Environment Than EVs, Study Finds
Good news for classic car fans: according to a new report from Footman James, a classic and specialist vehicle insurance provider, your classic motor is less damaging to the environment than modern vehicles, including EVs. The study suggests that the carbon footprint during the production of an average passenger car like the VW Golf is 6.8 tonnes (14,991 pounds) of CO2, while an EV such as the Polestar 2 increases this figure to 26 tonnes (57,320 pounds). For comparison, it takes more than 46 years of use for the average classic car to reach the same 26-tonne CO2 figure.
Driven: 2022 Toyota Aygo X Is A City Car With Altitude
The Toyota Aygo X is a crossover twist on your average city car. Unlike its predecessors, there’s no French equivalent for the Aygo, with the platform no longer shared with Citroen and Peugeot. Instead, the Aygo X is based on a shortened form of the Yaris’ TNGA GA-B platform. It’s not fast, space is at a premium, and the Aygo X won’t make an appearance in North America. However, it still manages to impress as a city car, and features more style than your average city runabout.
