The Jeep Cherokee is in desperate need of an update and Stellantis has confirmed that it will get one.
Jeep has been producing the current generation Cherokee since 2014, making it one of the oldest compact SUVs in the segment and appearing quite outdated compared to all of Jeep’s newer models. Speaking with Motor Trend, the head of Jeep Brand North America Jim Morrison confirmed the company has plans to make the next-gen Cherokee “bigger and better than ever.”
Details about the future Cherokee are limited but global president of the Jeep Brand, Christian Meunier, has revealed that it will have a lot of electrification.

Interestingly, MoparInsiders is reporting that the next-gen Cherokee could spawn a new Wagoneer-badged model as well. Following the positive reception to the new Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer models, Jeep may launch a Wagoneer variant of the new Cherokee, positioned as the flagship model and being fully loaded with luxurious features and accessories. All-wheel drive is expected to be standard.
Morrison has confirmed that the sixth-generation of the Cherokee will not launch this year. While that’s a shame, it’s not a surprise given how little has been said about the new model. Jeep also has quite a lot on its plate at the moment and is in the midst of developing an all-new model that will be added to its range next year. This lifestyle-oriented crossover will be underpinned by the STLA Small platform and sold exclusively with an all-electric powertrain.
Correction: A previous version of this story mistakenly stated that the Cherokee is based on the Giorgio platform when in fact, it is the new Grand Cherokee that uses said architecture. We apologize for the mistake.
