A camera has captured the moment that race car driver Dominik Olbert crashed his KTM X-Bow GTX while competing in April’s Pöllauberg hillclimb event in Austria.

In this clip from YouTube channel Motorsportvideos Luky M., Olbert can be seen taking a left-hand bend but appears to have done so with a little too much speed. He also looks to get a little too greedy with the throttle, briefly kicking out the tail of the X-Bow GTX before its rear wheels dip into the grass on the side of the road.

As soon as the KTM touched the grass, Olbert had no time to recover the car. One of the front wheels briefly lifts up in the air and the race car then slides aggressively to the left, firing off the road and into a steep grass embankment. The force of this impact destroys the front of the car and sends it into a violent spin.

One of the wheels is completely torn from the car and can be seen spirally through the air while various pieces of bodywork scatter across the grass hill. Photographers covering the event are forced to flee for cover to avoid getting taken out by the KTM. The car eventually slid to a stop on the side of the road.

Footage taken in the aftermath of the hillclimb crash shows that the car’s carbon fiber monocoque and roll cage remained intact during the crash, keeping Olbert safe.

The KTM X-Bow GTX is well suited to hill climb events like this. It is powered by an Audi Sport-sourced 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder pumping out 523 hp and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque. Those are some serious figures, especially when you consider that the car weighs just 1,048 kg (2,310 lbs).
