Cupra today gave the public a look into its future, showing us the Terramar SUV for the very first time. The hybrid SUV will be built in Hungary alongside the Audi Q3.
Although details remain scant, the model will arrive in 2024 and its lineup will include both internal combustion (likely mild-hybrid) and plug-in hybrid models. The latter will include even more options and greater range than it could previously offer, Cupra said, promising that the Terramar would have around 62 miles (100 km) of pure electric range.
The brand also promised that its e-HYBRID range will focus on performance and “contemporary sportiness,” whatever that means. Its name may serve to clarify, though, as it is inspired by the Sitges-Terramar racing circuit. The banked oval opened in 1923 in a coastal town near Barcelona and Cupra’s headquarters.

The crossover will be nearly 4,500 mm (177 inches) long, much like the Audi Q3. Positioned as a compact SUV, it will have to compete with the likes of the Hyundai Tucson and it will be longer than either the Cupra Ateca or the Formentor.
Like the Q3, the Terramar will be based on a modified version of the MQB platform which is intended as the basis for the Volkswagen Group’s next generation of PHEVs. Cupra confirmed that this will be the last gas or diesel-powered vehicle it produces.
“Our new sporty hybrid SUV perfectly combines bold proportions with a long striking bonnet, while the shark nose means breakthrough resistance and the determination to win,” said Jorge Diez, Cupra’s design director. “Thinking of how the driver will feel, we provide a unique experience with the latest technology, thanks to the driver-oriented interior concept.”
One of a trio of vehicles the brand showed off today at an event at Terramar, Sitges, the SUV will be joined by the Tavascan and the UrbanRebel in the Cupra lineup by 2025.
