A prototype of the upcoming Polestar 5 is set to make its dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The production version of the 2020 Precept concept has been officially previewed by sketches and renderings, but this will be the first time a life-sized prototype will be shown to the public, ahead of its market launch in 2024.
The announcement was joined by a photo gallery of a camouflaged prototype in action. The test vehicle is covered by a white and gray wrap and body covers but the soft curves of the final product are easily distinguishable. However, it is obviously not wearing the production lighting units and has bolts on the front bumper showing that it’s still a work-in-progress.

Besides the exterior shots we also get to see the prototype’s dashboard. Like the exterior, it is not completely finished, with missing upholstery and exposed components. Still, it gives us a pretty good idea of the Polestar 5’s interior design, revealing the brand-new steering wheel, the high-mounted center tunnel, and the digital cockpit comprising a free-standing digital instrument cluster and a large infotainment touchscreen in portrait orientation.
The prototype will compete in several drives up the hill, and then it will be stationed in the First Glance Paddock allowing bystanders to take a closer look. Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar’s CEO, said: “Goodwood is our favourite place to show our cars in an enthusiast environment. This year, we are thrilled to showcase Polestar 5 going up the hill! Our UK R&D team is doing an amazing job developing the car, and we are proud to be able to highlight their hard work at this early stage”.
The production design of the Polestar 5 has been recently leaked in patent images, confirming what we already knew from the official teasers. The four-door GT will feature split LED headlights, full-width taillights, and an aerodynamic silhouette with clean surfacing. The Polestar 5 will be based on a bonded aluminum platform developed in-house by Polestar’s R&D team in Coventry, UK. According to Polestar, the bespoke architecture allows the body-in-white to weigh less than cars of smaller segments, but at the same time, it will have a torsional rigidity superior to that of a two-seater sports car or supercar.
Besides the Polestar 5 prototype, the Swedish automaker will also have the performance-focused Polestar 2 BST edition 270 on display, alongside the original Precept concept, the recently revealed O2 roadster concept, and the Polestar 2.
