Porsche and Puma announced today that they are collaborating on a special sneaker series to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7.
First unveiled in 1972 at the Paris Motor Show to wide acclaim, the car was named in honor of the Carrera Panamericana road race, in which Porsche won its class in 1954 with a 550 Spyder. The first Porsche to bear the Carrera name, when it was released the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 was the fastest production vehicle to come out of Germany with a top speed of 152 mph (245 km/h).
To celebrate that legacy, Puma has created the Puma x Porsche Suede RS 2.7, which will be limited to just 500 examples per color. That restricted series production is the first ode to the special sports car, of which Porsche made just 500 in order to satisfy Group 4 homologation regulations.

The shoes are offered in 10 colors inspired by the paint options available to 911 Carrera RS 2.7 customers in the ‘70s. Eight of the shoes’ color combinations will be available around the world, while the orange and black shoes will be exclusively sold in Holland and the white and black pair will be solely offered to Japanese customers.
In addition to the colors, the shoes will also get an RS 2.7 motif on the back and along the sides of the heel are Porsche’s name and an inscription identifying these as one of 500 limited edition shoes. Inside, meanwhile, the insole has the image of a Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 printed on it.
Much like the car it now celebrates, the Puma Suede was, at first, a limited edition product. With an initial run of just 307 pairs, it was made to celebrate track and field Olympian Tommie Smith’s competition number.
Now on sale in France (one of the only markets we could find prices in) the Puma x Porsche Suede RS 2.7 retails for €120 ($127 USD at current exchange rates). For that sum, apart from the shoes, you also get free entry to the Porsche Museum until the end of 2022.
