Prodrive’s new P25 may be obscenely expensive but it proved to be one of the highlights of this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed and while at the event, Carfection’s Henry Catchpole had the opportunity to check out the car in person.
In creating the car, Prodrive wanted to combine the best elements of the famed Impreza 22B with the STi WRC rally car to create the ultimate driver’s car. Just 25 units will be built.
Underpinning the Prodrive P25 is an original two-door WRX chassis and while it features Subaru’s current 2.5-liter under the hood, this engine has been overhauled and sports a new motorsport-derived Garrett turbocharger, new lines, pistons, rods, and a bespoke valve train. There is also a high-performance intercooler and an Akrapovic exhaust made from a combination of titanium and stainless steel.

Prodrive’s official press release says the car it is good for 400 hp and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque but speaking with Catchpole, Prodrive’s head of research and development says it actually has more than 450 hp.
Coupled to the engine is a six-speed sequential transmission with helical-cut cogs that can change gears in just 80 milliseconds. There is also a potent launch control system that handles the first two gear changes before handing over control once the car is in third gear. Prodrive says it can hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than 3.5 seconds.
This video from Carfection also provides us with our first in-depth look at the interior. It is very similar to an original WRX but has been re-trimmed in black leather and Alcantara, complete with blue contrast stitching and a set of large paddle shifters. Prodrive notes that it will offer customers the choice between a stripped-out, hardcore version of the interior or one that is slightly more luxurious and comfortable.
