Volkswagen is launching its 2023 Amarok pickup on July 7, and truck, yeah, we can’t wait for that date to roll around! Because that’s the date we’ll finally get to see the new South African-built flatbed in all its glory, and means we won’t have to suffer any more pointless “lifestyle” teaser videos like the one that dropped today.

Having already given us a peek at the rear tailgate and the large 12-in portrait touchscreen that’s lifted from the Ford Ranger, whose platform the new Amarok shares, Volkswagen has dropped a promo video that tries to tell us about the truck by telling us about the kind of fantasy buyer the marketing team has on their mood board.

According to the video, he’s a moody-looking 30-something chef, a rebel that loves to get tough in the boxing gym, but is a big softie at home with his kids. And it’s pretty clear that VW is hinting that the Amarok has similar characteristics, though you have to read between the lines because the actual vehicular content in the video is limited to brief silhouetted footage of the Amarok from the front-three-quarter angle with its headlights and DRLs lit – footage we’ve seen before in an earlier teaser designed to showcase the truck’s new adaptive IQ.Light matrix LED lamps.

Fortunately, those earlier teasers actually imparted some useful information about the Amarok. We know, for instance, that it will be able to tow up to 3.5 tonnes (7,716 lbs) and haul up to 1.2 tonnes (2,645 lbs) in its bed. We also know that besides the trick lights it will come with more than 30 ADAS safety features, 10-way adjustable seats, and offer multiple engines (depending on the market), including one gas engine and four diesels ranging in size from 2.0 liters and four cylinders to a 3.0-liter V6. Both rear- and all-wheel-drive versions are planned, and customers will be able to choose between Life, Style, PanAmericana and Aventura trim grades.
