Fuel economy numbers have just been revealed for the 2023 Toyota Sequoia and its new 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 hybrid powertrain.
Figures published on Toyota’s website reveal that the rear-wheel drive Sequoia is rated at 21 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway, and 22 mpg combined. Those opting for an all-wheel drive variant will see 19 mpg in the city, 22 mpg on the highway, and 20 mpg over the combined cycle.

The 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 hybrid of the 2023 Sequoia is quite the performer. In fact, it pumps out an impressive 437 hp and 583 lb-ft (790 Nm) of torque, significant gains of 56 hp and 182 lb-ft (246 Nm) over the 5.7-liter naturally-aspirated V8 of the old model.
Not only is the new Sequoia much more powerful than its predecessor but the difference in the fuel economy numbers is quite staggering. In fact, the old rear-wheel drive model returned just 13 mph city, 17 mpg highway, and 15 mpg combined, quite horrendous by modern standards.
It’s not just fuel economy and performance where the Sequoia has a significant advantage over its predecessor. Toyota managed to increase its towing capacity by a significant 22 percent to 9,000 lbs (4,082 kg). It can also be optioned with a Tow Tech Package that includes Straight Path Assist and Trailer Backup Guide features.
A plethora of important safety features is also available with the 2023 Sequoia. These include the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 suite of driver assistance systems that includes a Pre-Collision System with pedestrian and bicyclist detection, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, and Lane Tracing Assist. Other important features include Automatic High Beams, Road Sign Assist, Rear Seat Reminder, Panoramic View Monitor, and a Blind Spot Monitor.
