Audi Q6 Unveiled In China As A More Premium Sibling To The VW Atlas

SAIC Audi has officially unveiled the all-new Q6 in China, as a full-size ICE-powered three-row SUV with a larger footprint than the Q7. Despite the similar name, the Q6 has nothing to do with the upcoming Q6 e-tron EV, since it is based on the MQB architecture and will be exclusively offered in China.

We already saw the exterior of the Audi Q6 from all angles last March, thanks to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The model incorporates typical Audi styling cues from both ICE and EV models, like the Singleframe grille and the hidden lighting units on the large bumper intakes. Both the front and the rear lighting units are connected with full-width LEDs, while the profile is rather muscular with a long rear overhang. The pictured example is fitted with 21-inch wheels finished in black.

Measuring 5,099 mm (200.8 inches) long, 2,014 mm (79.3 inches) wide, and 1,784 mm (70.2 inches) tall, the Q6 is slightly larger than the Q7. However, the 2,980 mm (17.3 inches) wheelbase is a tad shorter, and identical to the closely-related VW Atlas which is also produced by SAIC for the Chinese market.

Inside, the Q6 has three rows of seats, and it is available in six- or seven-seater configurations. SAIC calls it “Roadjet”, trying to highlight its cruising character, while the interior atmosphere is significantly more premium than in the VW Atlas. This was made possible thanks to the standard leather upholstery with matching-color stitching on the 12-way adjustable seats with heating, ventilating, and massaging functions (the six-seater gets optional aviation-grade executive seats). When the seats are folded, the luggage space is a massive 2,398 lt, bringing van-like capabilities.

The dashboard gets the familiar 12.3-inch Audi virtual cockpit, a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, a head-up display, and an extra 8.6-inch touchscreen for the climate controls, combined with ambient lighting and metal-like accents. There is also a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system for entertainment, retractable cup holders, retractable phone holders, and sunshades for the rear passengers. Safety-wise, the Q6 can be equipped with the Audi AI Pro pilot package for L2+ ADAS.

The MQB-based model is available with a range of turbocharged petrol engines. The 45TFSI is fitted with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 262 hp (195 kW / 265 PS) and 400 Nm of torque. The more powerful 50TFSI is fitted with a 2.5-liter six-cylinder producing 295 hp (220 kW / 299 PS) and 500 Nm of torque allowing a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration in 7.3 seconds. All models come standard with an automatic gearbox, quattro all-wheel drive and DCC adaptive dynamic suspension.

Audi has started taking reservations for the Q6 in China, with prices ranging between ¥500,000 ($74,127) and ¥650,000 ($96,366) depending on the variant.
