As we are inching closer to the market launch of the all-new Honda Civic Type R, a new rumor suggests that only 546 units of the Japanese hot hatch will be available in Canada, making it really hard to satisfy the potential demand in this market.
The rumor started from a forum user called fastSI who claims he is working for a large Honda dealership in Quebec. According to his post on the Civicxi forum, Honda internally announced that Canada will get just 546 examples of the Civic Type R, split between three model years (2023, 2024, and 2025).

The user also claims that most dealerships won’t be able to get the performance flagship of the Civic range. Examples of the hot hatch will be reserved for large dealerships that sell more than 5 Type Rs per year. He adds that his dealership in Quebec will only get a total of 7 units of the Type R spread across three years. He said that two customers have already expressed interest in the model, which nearly covers the 2-3 cars they will get for MY2023. Unfortunately, pricing has yet to be announced.
The employee didn’t have information about the US market, where the potentially limited availability of the new Type R would cause an extremely long waiting list. Honda fans in Canada who are planning on ordering the new Type R might have to hurry up and contact their dealers. Last weekend, a camouflaged prototype of the Civic Type R landed in Ohio, US, ahead of the official debut that is expected before the end of the year.
Under the aggressive bodykit of the Type R hides an improved suspension setup and a new version of the turbocharged 2.0-liter VTEC engine producing more than its predecessor’s 306 hp (228 kW / 310 PS). Power will be sent to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox as proven by our spy shots.
