A camouflaged prototype of the fully electric Maserati GranTurismo Folgore made an appearance last week, but our spy photographers caught it again, this time with an open bonnet, giving us a first look at its electric powertrain.
Like all future models of Maserati’s range, the GranTurismo and the GranCabrio will be offered in both ICE-powered and EV forms. The latter, dubbed Folgore, will use the space usually occupied by the Maserati Nettuno twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6, for a bunch of electronics. The prototype was caught inside the workshop next to the track, where engineers were preparing it for development testing.

The electric powertrain in the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore is expected to produce in excess of 1,184 hp (883 kW / 1,200 PS) from a trio of electric motors. This figure would make it the most powerful Maserati ever.
Styling-wise, the Folgore variant will feature a few styling tweaks compared to the regular GranTurismo, while retaining most of the body panels including the fender-mounted LED headlights, the traditional grand tourer proportions, and the sexy tail with MC20-inspired taillights. Among the differences, there will be a model-specific grille, slimmer bumper intakes, a new set of wheels, plus the absence of the quad tailpipes.
The Maserati GranTurismo Folgore is expected to debut in 2023, alongside the ICE-powered GranTurismo. By 2025, the Trident brand will be offering Folgore variants of its entire range. Maserati has pledged of becoming an EV-only brand by 2030, which means they will discontinue ICE, at least for their road-going models.
