One of the first customer-owned BMW 8 X JEFF KOONS models has just been handed over to its new steward and it is reportedly the first to be delivered in the United States.

The eye-catching 8-Series from Jeff Koons was unveiled back in February. It is based on the M850i xDrive Gran Coupe and while it hasn’t undergone any mechanical modifications, the car’s exterior has been transformed with a striking paint scheme.

All 99 examples of the 8 X JEFF KOONS have the same comic book-inspired paint scheme that combines elements of yellow, silver, orange, red, and different shades of blue. It includes large ‘POP!’ motifs on the sides, mushroom clouds, stars, and various geometric patterns. The hood is particularly striking as it sports a large painted BMW emblem.

Given how eye-catching the exterior of the car is, it comes as no surprise that the owner of this one recently had it detailed and ceramic coated by Texas Detailing Association in Houston. BMW says that the paint of each 8 X JEFF KOONS model takes hundreds of hours to complete and requires 11 different stages.

The interior of the car is just as wild as the exterior. Immediately catching the eye are the front and rear seats clad in bright blue and red leather. The seats are then contrasted by brown leather across the door panels and plum-colored leather on the transmission tunnel and lower part of the dashboard. It’s certainly not for the faint of heart. A special model designation is also found on the center console.

The car definitely isn’t cheap. In fact, each 8 X JEFF KOONS is priced at $350,000 in the U.S. plus $995 destination and handling, making it $250,100 more expensive than an ordinary M850i xDrive Gran Coupe.
