Your next Walmart order could be delivered by something a bit more futuristic than usual as the company has signed a “definitive agreement” to purchase 4,500 electric delivery vehicles from Canoo.
The retail giant will initially be buying Canoo’s Lifestyle Delivery Vehicle (LDV), which is slated to go into production late this year. Walmart will be using the vans for delivering online orders and the “companies plan to kick off advanced deliveries to refine and finalize vehicle configuration in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex [area] in the coming weeks.”
In joint press releases, the companies said the LDV has been optimized for sustainable last mile deliveries as it has been “engineered for high frequency stop-and-go deliveries and speedy vehicle to door drop-off, including grocery and food/meal delivery.” The companies also noted the van has a customizable interior designed for small package delivery as well as 120 cubic feet (3,398 liters) of cargo room, which means the model can carry countless packages at one time.

Other highlights are said to include a cabin optimized for last mile deliveries with a focus on driver ergonomics. Furthermore, the model’s panoramic windshield promises improved visibility. In terms of performance, the van is slated to have an 80 kWh battery pack as well as a range of 250 miles (402 km).
The agreement with Walmart includes the option to purchase up to 10,000 vehicles and it’s just the latest EV for the retailer. As we’ve previously reported, the company has ordered 5,000 vehicles from BrightDrop and they’re slated to enter service next year as well.
