Volkswagen is unveiling the new Amarok pickup truck today, and you can watch the full, live unveiling below at 10:00 a.m. CEST, 4:00 a.m. EST.
The new Amarok will be a generational leap from the existing model, not least because the chassis it will be based on has been designed by Ford, not VW. That means that it will share much in common with the new Ranger.
As a result, the new truck has not only grown by 3.9-inches (10 cm) in length over the existing pickup, but it will also be wider than the outgoing Amarok and will have improved ground clearance, too. Its wheelbase has also grown by 6.9 inches (17.5 cm).

Under the hood, VW has previously indicated that the truck will be offered with both 2.0-liter I4 and 3.0-liter V6 engines. Power ratings haven’t been made explicit, but the automaker said that the V6 TDI engine will make “plenty of power and torque.”
That will allow it to tow up to 3.5 tonnes (7,716 lbs) and it will have a payload of up to 1.2 tonnes (2,645 lbs). Buyers will be able to choose between rear- and all-wheel drive.
Volkswagen is positioning the Amarok as a premium truck and is taking advantage of the capability built into the Ranger platform. That means that it will get five trim levels. In addition to the base truck, there will be a Life and a Style trim. For those looking for a premium lifestyle truck, there will be the Aventura, while the PanAmericana will focus on off-roading.
The 2023 Volkswagen Amarok was developed in Germany and Australia, and it will be built in South Africa.
