The third-generation BMW X1 will land on Australian shores this year and initial pricing details have just been announced.
When the X1 arrives in the fourth quarter, it will initially be sold in sDrive18i and xDrive20i guises, priced from AU$53,900 ($37,589) and AU$65,900 ($45,958) respectively. The all-electric iX1 xDrive30 will follow in the first quarter of 2021 with pricing and specifications to be announced closer to its launch.
The X1 sDrive18i is powered by a 1.5-liter three-cylinder TwinPower Turbo that pumps out 154 hp (115 kW) and 170 lb-ft (230 Nm) of torque. This engine works alongside a seven-speed dual-clutch Steptronic transmission that sends its power through the front wheels. BMW quotes a fuel consumption of 6.5 l/100 km (36 mpg) over the combined cycle.

The X1 xDrive20i offers much more performance thanks to the use of a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 201 hp (150 kW) and 221 lb-ft (300 Nm). It too utilizes a dual-clutch Steptronic transmission but sends its power through all four wheels courtesy of the automaker’s xDrive all-wheel drive system. Its fuel consumption is rated at 7.4 l/100 km (31.7 mpg).
A host of new features distinguish the new X1 sDrive18i from the previous-generation model. These include two-zone automatic climate control, adaptive LED headlights, automatic tailgate, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, BMW Live Cockpit Professional, Comfort Access, Connected Package Professional, Head-Up Display, an instrument panel finished in Sensatec, M headliner, mirror package with an anti-dazzle function, remote software updates, Driving Assistant Plus with Active Cruise control, Parking Assistant Plus, and wireless Android Auto.
In addition to its use of a more powerful engine, the X1 xDrive20i is differentiated from the sDrive18i thanks to 19-inch wheels, Driving Assistant Professional with Steering and Lane Control System, heated front seats, and electrically-adjustable front seats.
Those looking to pick up the keys to the X1 xDrive20i can also option a AU$3,000 ($2,092) M Sport package that includes M Sport 19-inch wheels, Adaptive M suspension, M aluminum hexacube dark interior trim, M leather steering wheel, M high gloss Shadow Line trim, and M high gloss roof rails.
