The maker of the iPhone, the iPad, and the Amazon Kindle has announced that it will be building electric tractors at its newly acquired plant in Lordstown, Ohio.
Hon Hai Technology Group, better known as Foxconn, announced today that it will provide assembly services for DBA Monarch Tractor. The agricultural equipment company will have its next-generation tractors and battery packs built by the international industrial giant.
Full scale production of Monarch Tractor’s Mk-V Series will begin in the first quarter of 2023, the companies say. Monarch’s Founder Series tractor, meanwhile, will be produced at its Livermore, California facility, starting in the fourth quarter of this year.

“Creating the industry’s most advanced tractor demands a manufacturing partner with the experience to quickly scale and execute with precision,” said Praveen Penmetsa, Co-Founder & CEO of Monarch Tractor. “Foxconn is an EMS leader whose manufacturing and solutions are world-renowned. We are proud to partner with Foxconn and work together to transform the future of farming.”
Monarch Tractor calls itself the world’s first electric, driver optional, smart tractor maker and has raised $81 million in funding, reports Automotive News. Its backers include VST Tillers, CNH Industrial, Musashi Seimitsu Industry, Astanor Ventures, At One Ventures, Trimble Ventures, and MUUS.
Foxconn will assist the company with production at its 6.2 million square foot facility in Ohio, which it purchased from the struggling Lordstown Motors in May for $230 million. This is the latest step in the company’s mission to build EVs. The company will also make the Fisker Pear at its Ohio factory, and it could be working to make a deal with Apple.
Apple has been recruiting talent from across the automotive industry and filing patents for automotive technology. That said, reports suggest that its electric vehicle team is struggling and in disarray.
