Luxury buyers looking to go electric have a new option as Genesis has announced the Electrified G80 is now available in a handful of states for $79,825 – excluding a $1,095 destination charge.
Costing $30,325 more than the ICE-powered variant, the Electrified G80 is distinguished by a fully enclosed grille that features a hidden charging port. The model also has LED lighting units, power closing doors, and a hands-free smart trunk with an auto open function. They’re joined by 19-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, and power-folding side mirrors that project the Genesis logo onto the ground.
Since Genesis is a luxury brand, it comes as little surprise that buyers will find matte wood trim and Nappa leather seats with heating, ventilation and power adjustment up front. Other highlights include a heated leather steering wheel, acoustic laminated glass, and a microfiber suede headliner.
Driven: The New Genesis G80 Confirms The Brand Is Going From Strength To Strength
On the tech front, there’s a 12.3-inch 3D digital instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch infotainment system with GPS navigation as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. The sedan also comes equipped with a head-up display, digital key technology, and an electrochromic rearview mirror with HomeLink. The model also sports a tri-zone climate control system, active noise control technology, and a wireless smartphone charger.
Motivation is provided by an 87.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which powers a dual-motor all-wheel drive system. This setup gives the model a combined output of 365 hp (272 kW / 370 PS) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque.
In terms of range, drivers can expect to travel up to 282 miles (454 km) on a single charge. When the battery drops to 10%, it can be fully replenished in a little over seven hours with a Level 2 charger. With a 350 kW DC fast charger, the G80 can go from a 10% to 80% charge in as little as 22 minutes.
On the safety front, there’s a ton of driver assistance systems including Forward Collision Avoidance-Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist. They’re joined by a Blind-Spot View Monitor, Highway Driving Assist, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist. Rounding out the highlights are High Beam Assist, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, a Surround View Monitor, Parking Distance Warning, Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist, Remote Smart Parking Assist, and Safe Exit Assist. The model also has an electronically controlled suspension with road preview technology.
While the Electrified G80 sounds impressive, it will be a rare beast as the model will initially be limited to select dealers in California, Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York. That list will grow in September as the EV will then be offered in Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and Washington.
Those lucky enough to get their hands on one will be rewarded with three years of 30-minute complimentary charging sessions from Electrify America.
