Good morning and welcome to our daily digest of automotive news from around the globe, starting with…

Geneva Motor Show Cancelled For The Fourth Consecutive Year, Will Be Held In Qatar Next Year

The Geneva International Motor Show has been put on ice yet again, as the 2023 show, which was planned to be held in February, will not be going ahead. While Covid had scuppered the last three shows, it seems this year’s “uncertainties in the global economy and geopolitics” have killed the event. Instead, a sister event in Doha, Qatar will be held in November 2023, and rather curiously will be named “Geneva Motor Show”.

Hennessey Chops The Roof Off Venom F5 To Create $3 Million Roadster

The Hennessey Venom F5 has sprouted a roadster variant. The detachable roof is crafted from carbon fiber, much like the rest of the car, and is held in place by quick-release bolts and latches designed to withstand the tremendous speeds the F5 can achieve. While the Roadster’s technical specs are the same as the coupe’s (featuring a 1,817 hp (1,842 PS) twin-turbo 6.6-liter V8), the 100-lbs (45 kg) weight penalty will likely make a minor dent in the times and top speed.

Lincoln Model L100 Concept Is A Futuristic Look At An Autonomous Electric Coupe That Opens Like A Ladybug

The Lincoln Model L100 Concept is an all-electric and completely autonomous glimpse of the brand’s future. Unveiled as part of Monterey Car Week, the Model L100 takes inspiration from the 1922 Lincoln Model L. The futuristic showcar’s doors spread like a ladybug’s, and both interior and exterior lighting is used to welcome occupants with an “orchestrated symphony of lights.”

Dodge Says 14,000 Hornet Pre-Orders Were Placed In The First 24 Hours

In the 24-hour period following the unveiling of the new Alfa Romeo-based 2023 Dodge Hornet, the company says it has already received over 14,000 pre-orders. What makes this figure even more impressive is that only the entry-level “GT” trim is currently available to be reserved, not the more powerful R/T model that will launch later in 2023. No doubt, the attractive starting price of $29,995 (before destination) is helping the small SUV’s initial popularity.

Acura Precision Concept Points To Future EV Design Inspired By Italian Speed Boats

Acura has chosen to look toward Italian speed boats for its latest concept, which is described as a “north star” in terms of design for its electrified future. The Precision concept also gives us an idea of what the brand’s first all-electric SUV will look like when it arrives in 2024. It features an illuminated Pentagon “grille,” Acura’s “chicane” DRL light signature with a “Particle Glitch” effect, and 23-inch wheels. On the inside, passengers are treated to a collection of premium and sustainable materials, including biomass leather, aluminum, and other recycled materials.

NHTSA Doesn’t Want People Testing Tesla’s Full Self-Driving On Real Human Children

In news that you’d hope was more common sense than an actual warning from the NHTSA, the agency has felt the need to remind people not to use children when testing Tesla’s Full Self-Driving Beta software. It’s in response to several YouTube videos surfacing that include real people (and yes, children too) being used to test FSD. One such video, uploaded by the Whole Mars Catalog channel, was a direct response to a political attack ad aimed at Tesla’s Full Self-Driving software paid for by rival software creator Dan O’Dowd.

EA Discounts Fifa 23 by 99 Percent In Error

Game developer Electronic Arts will honor pre-ordered copies of Fifa 2023 that were mistakenly sold for a 99 percent discount. Fifa 23, the last game that EA Sports will be making in the football series, was offered on India’s Epic Games store at 4.80 rupees ($0.06), instead of the 4,800 rupees ($60) it should have been. While the error occurred last month, EA has now confirmed that all sales will be honored.

Stars Coffee Replaces Starbucks In Russia

After its invasion of Ukraine earlier this year, several international chains decided to pull out from Russia, including U.S. coffee shop Starbucks. Starbucks had over 130 stores employing around 2,000 people throughout Russia. Now the outlets will gradually be reopened under the “Stars Coffee” brand, featuring a similar logo to Starbucks, but with the woman in the logo wearing traditional Russian headgear.
