Maserati introduced the MC20 Cielo Spyder earlier this year and the model recently celebrated its North American debut at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering.
Named after the Italian word for sky, the MC20 Cielo Spyder is a glorious two-seat roadster that features a retractable glass roof which opens and closes in just 12 seconds.
Besides giving the model a coupe-like appearance, the roof has an electrochromic glass window that transitions from clear to opaque at the touch of a button thanks to Polymer-Dispersed Liquid Crystal technology. That isn’t the only party trick as the roof doesn’t have any impact on the car’s cargo capacity.

Moving into the cabin, drivers will find a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a matching 10.25-inch infotainment system. They’re joined by an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel with Start and Launch Control buttons as well as dark aluminum or carbon fiber paddle shifters. Other highlights include matte carbon fiber trim, a wireless smartphone charger, and a digital drive mode selector with GT, Sport, Corsa, Wet, and ESC Off settings.
Like the coupe, the MC20 Cielo Spyder rides on a carbon fiber monocoque and features a twin-turbo 3.0-liter Nettuno V6 engine. It develops an impressive 621 hp (463 kW / 630 PS) and 538 lb-ft (729 Nm) of torque.
The engine is paired to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, which enables the model to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in approximately three seconds before hitting a top speed in excess of 199 mph (320 km/h). Furthermore, since the roadster only weighs 143 lbs (65 kg) more than the coupe, Maserati says the Cielo Spyder “maintains the dynamic performance and driving pleasure” of the standard model.
