Lucid Motors published a teaser preparing us for the debut of a “new addition to the Lucid Air lineup” on August 19 at The Quail. The cryptic shot of blue track lights was joined by an official press release highlighting Lucid’s presence at a series of events during the Monterey Car Week and confirming that deliveries of the new Air variant will start in 2023.

The teaser is titled “Blue means go”. This could hint at a new performance-focused variant of the Lucid Air that could be a direct rival to the Tesla Model S Plaid. The EV is rumored to use a tri-motor setup bringing greater performance figures which could explain the track references. The company promised that the first deliveries of the new variant will start in 2023, however it urgently needs to ramp up its production figures in order to meet the growing demand for the regular Air.

The press release on the official Lucid Motors website announced a press conference on August 19 at The Quail for “a global debut of a new vehicle variant that could only come from Lucid”. The company suggests that high-ranked officials will be present to showcase “this stunning new addition to the Lucid Air lineup”. Finally, the vehicle will also be present at the Concept Car Lawn in Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 21. This could mean it will debut in concept form, but given the delivery timeline, it must be pretty close to production status.

Besides the big news at The Quail, Lucid will participate in other events including the Motorlux (Aug 17) allowing attendees to get a closer look at the brand-new Lucid Air Stealth Look trim, the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion (Aug 17-18 and 20-21) where Ben Collins will drive the Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance in Laguna Seca, and the Lucid Dream Ahead Tour Ride & Drive program (Aug 18-20) with a fleet of Air models driving at the Spanish Bay, before wrapping up at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance (Aug 21).
