The upcoming 2023 Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder RS has been spied testing once again, this time in near-production spec.
Following the overwhelmingly positive response to the 718 Cayman GT4 RS, the German car manufacturer has decided to make an RS version of the 718 Boxster Spyder. While this isn’t the first time our spy photographers have snapped a prototype in the midst of testing, the design of this tester’s soft top is a little different.

Most notably, the roof of this prototype now stretches back further across the car’s decklid and attaches to a pair of small air intakes not present on the standard 718 Boxster Spyder.
There are few other visual differences between this 718 Boxster Spyder RS prototype and the existing 718 Boxster Spyder but Porsche may equip it with some new aerodynamic components not visible on this car. A set of new center-locking wheels adorn this prototype.
Performance specifications have not been announced. However, it is safe to assume that the car will borrow its powertrain from the 718 Cayman GT4 RS, meaning it should feature a naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine pumping out 493 hp and 331 lb-ft (448 Nm) of torque. This engine is coupled exclusively to a seven-speed PDK transmission in the GT4 RS and the same is expected of the Boxster Spyder RS. The car should be capable of hitting 60 mph (96 km/h) in around 3.2 seconds while continuing through to a 196 mph (315 km/h) top speed.
Interestingly, our spy photographers note that the fact this prototype doesn’t have carbon ceramic brakes suggests that they will not be available as standard and only as an expensive optional extra.
We expect to see Porsche launch the 718 Boxster Spyder RS next year as a 2024 model.
