Cadillac hopes to re-establish itself as the ‘standard of the world’ with the all-electric Celestiq and based on recently filed trademarks, it appears as though a handful of different trim levels will be available.
Applications made with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and uncovered by the SilveradoEVForum reveal that Cadillac has filed to trademark the names Celestiq Aurora, Celestiq Magnetic, Celestiq Mist, and Celestiq Vale, prompting speculation that these could be the names of four distinct variants of the EV.
It is impossible to know which of these names will be used for the entry-level, mid-level, and flagship variants of the Celestiq but they all have a nice ring to them.
While Cadillac has only showcased the Celestiq as a concept, it is widely reported that the flagship version could cost as much as $300,000. That wouldn’t simply make it double the price of a Cadillac Escalade-V ESV but also position it above the $212,000 Bentley Flying Spur W12 and within spitting distance of the $311,000 Rolls-Royce Ghost. That’s a serious amount of money and the only way to convince consumers that it’s worth it will be hand-building a vehicle that is world class, in all aspects.
We know that the production model will be underpinned by Cadillac’s Ultium EV architecture that is used by the likes of the Lyriq, Chevrolet Blazer, and Chevrolet Silverado EV. It is unclear how much power the Celestiq will have, nor how many electric motors will propel it forward. However, it is reasonable to assume it will have more than the 500 hp of the flagship Lyriq SUV.
A host of technologies have already been confirmed for the EV. These include a dashboard outfitted with a 55-inch digital display and two high-definition touchscreens on the back of the headrests for rear-seat passengers to enjoy. An additional display is found in the rear center console.
Cadillac is expected to unveil the new Celestiq in either late 2023 or early 2024 before sales begin as a 2025MY.
