Toyota announced today that the standard GR Yaris will join the Kinto Factory lineup. That means that owners will be able to buy the tune that was previously only available on the GR Yaris Morizo Selection.
That will give all Japanese GR Yaris owners access to the “GR Yaris Performance Software 2.0,” which increases torque from 272 lb-ft (370 Nm) to 288 lb-ft (390 Nm). Toyota adds that the software improves the curve, too, not just the peak figure.
According to the automaker, the maximum torque is boosted between 3,200 and 4,000 rpm, which it says provides more relaxed acceleration. It can act however customers want it to, though, because simply boosting the power isn’t the only thing that Kinto Factory offers.

In addition to installing the software, trained GR consultants can also walk owners through the personalization options available to them with their new tune. GR Yaris owners can opt to simply consult with a professional who will provide them with a rundown of the 27 combinations of throttle response, AWD torque distribution, and steering assist settings to find the one that suits them best.
For a little more, they can choose to personalize their vehicle using driving data analysis. For this option, Toyota gathers data from having the owner drive a specific track and having that data analyzed. The information is then sent to a GR garage, where the best of the same 27 input configurations can be applied to the vehicle.
The latter option costs 15,000 yen ($109 USD at current exchange rates), while the former costs 8,800 yen ($64 USD). The first customization, however, is covered under the price of the GR Yaris Performance Software 2.0, which rings in at 141,000 yen ($1,029 USD).
Powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, the little hot hatch has dazzled critics and sold like hot cakes. In 2021, Toyota introduced the Morizo Selection version in Japan, which, along with added torque, also features a number of visual upgrades, like ROOKIE Racing-inspired seat stitching colors, a Morizo emblem and signature, and more.
