This is the 2023 Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe, a special variant of the best-selling plug-in hybrid in the U.S., set to reach the hands of customers in the fourth quarter of 2022.
The Wrangler Willys 4xe will act as the new entry-level variant of the 4xe, starting at $53,995 excluding a $1,595 destination charge and before the $7,500 federal tax credit.
Like the “normal” Wrangler 4xe, the new Willys version is driven by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder working alongside an engine-mounted motor generator unit, a motor generator unit integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission, and a 400-volt 17 kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery pack. All up, it is good for 375 hp and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque and is rated at 49 MPGe over the combined cycle.
Jeep has equipped the Willys 4xe with LED headlights and fog lights as standard, while also installing rock rails, a black grille, and 17-inch black alloy wheels wrapped in 255/75 mud-terrain tires. A Willys decal is also found on the hood while Electric Blue accents adorn the front and rear tow hooks, the Jeep badge, and the Trail Rated badge.

Elsewhere, the Wrangler Willys 4xe features a 9-speaker Alpine audio system, all-weather floor mats, a rear limited-slip differential, and can be optioned with an 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system and the Sun and Screen Package that adds the popular One-Touch Power-Top.
Three key driving modes are available, consisting of Hybrid, Electric, and eSave. The first of these blends power from the 2.0-liter engine and the electric motor while in Electric mode, the off-roader acts as an EV until the battery reaches the minimum charge or when the driver fully depresses the accelerator. In eSave mode, power from the 2.0-liter is prioritized, saving battery charge for later use.
The 2023 Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe can be customized with various Jeep Performance Parts from Mopar, just like other Wrangler models.
“Jeep Wrangler 4xe customers looking for the ultimate combination of capability and electrification, with a vintage twist, can now have it in the 2023 Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe,” said Jeep’s boss, Jim Morrison. “The debut of the new heritage-inspired 2023 Wrangler Willys 4xe pairs 49 MPGe, 470 lb.-ft. of torque with unmatched Jeep capability, a 2.72:1 4WD low range ratio, heavy-duty Dana 44 axles and a new entry price point to the 2023 model year Wrangler 4xe lineup, which continues to be the best-selling plug-in hybrid in America.”
